Ten years ago India was perceived by many to be dirty, third-world country where a bout of Delhi-belly was inevitable - a place you'd be brave to visit. India today is an exciting nation that is developing rapidly, and travelling around is easier than it once was. Of course, some areas are more difficult to reach, and some have higher standards of luxury and hygiene than others, but an easy acceptance of simplicity, and a chance to visit some of the lesser-known regions, can bring the greatest rewards.
